Entering into therapy is a big step. While acknowledging the courage needed to pursue counseling as a resource, my goal as a therapist is to assist you while you work through some of life's obstacles. I utilize various techniques such a play, narrative, and depth (Jungian) therapies. I work with children and adolescents, men and women, couples, and families with a variety of concerns including anxiety, grief, communication, anger, isolation, and relationships. I also facilitate groups for both children, adolescents, and their families. These groups focus on developing healthy attachments, foster and adoption related issues, relationships, and finding meaning in life circumstance.

Current Projects:
In addition to my private practice work, I recently began organizing a group practice called, Highland Counseling Center. Currently we have 12 counselors who are committed to the mission of building community while serving community. While pursuing the development of a non-profit entity, I am developing partnerships with various organizations including Outward Bound Denver, Adoption Exchange, Adoption Alliance, and Denver Public Schools. These collaborative relationships will assist with the development of free group therapy programs offered to North High School, Foster and Adoption Families, and adults who are currently unemployed:
  • At-Risk Youth Program- This will be a group therapy format offered to students at North High School. The intention of this group will be to address issues related to substance abuse, identity, bullying, and communication. There will also be an assessment utilized as a means of measuring the level of support these groups will have on academic achievement.
  • Outdoor Pursuits Program- This will be a leadership building group format also offered to students at North High School. The structure of this group will be to provide students access to wilderness learning, team-building, and Outward Bound Denver programming.
  • Foster/Adoption Program- This will be a multi-family, children, or adolescent groups aimed to offer support to fostering healthy attachments and community amongst families.

Experience:
My development as a therapist has been nurtured in many ways. In addition to my education, I have worked in a variety of counseling settings including:
  • Los Amigos in Durango, Colorado; volunteer counselor within tutoring program for at-risk hispanic youth.
  • Community Mental Health Program, Durango: counselor at treatment program for developmentally disabled (differently-abled) adults.
  • Napa State Hosptial, California; psychological intern at Civil and Forensic in-patient programs for adults with chronic mental health issues.
  • Children's Hospital, Denver; volunteer on severe burn and heart transplant unit.
  • MDS Counseling Center, Denver; counseling intern at private practice and school counseling program at elementary school.
  • Shiloh House, Inc, Littleton; clinician for children and their families at therapeutic residential child-care facility
Working in each of these environments has increased my understanding of the variety of ways in which individuals and families are impacted by biological, pychological and sociological factors and more importantly, how to offer effective support.
